His canvases are created in the sea, their colours and forms shaped and refined by the ebb and flow of the tide and the raw energy of the wind and rain. This footage was captured on Folkestone beach by art dealer Robin Saikia, whose partner Vicki Carpenter is seen helping Jeff Hoare prepare paint and canvas for the unique ritual of 'sea painting' in the incoming tide. Jeff Hoare was born in 1923 and studied at the Chelsea School of Art and at the Royal College. From 1963 until 1995 he taught painting and drawing at Saint Martins and at Camberwell. He has directed art workshops all over the world, in Belgrade, Paris, Canada and Cameroun, and in 1985 he founded the Aegean School of Art in Kos.
